CELTIC chief Peter Lawwell is set to complete a £1.5million transfer – to a stunning new home.

The 50-year-old Parkhead chief executive has signed up to buy a 12-room mansion close to his old home on the outskirts of Glasgow.

The house has only recently been finished but has been on the market for several months through estate agents Countrywide.

It is understood it had been viewed by a number of footballers.

But Lawwell, who earns more than £700,000 a year, managed to seal the deal.

The house, built by Glasgow developers Springhill, boasts a wide range of amenities, including underground heating in the driveway.

It is only a short distance from Lawwell’s former home in the exclusive village of Thorntonhall, Lanarkshire.

Lawwell sold the detached villa, which was on the market for £1.1million, recently – less than four years after he bought it for £850,000.

His neighbours in the village include Celtic star Aiden McGeady, former Rangers winger Peter Lovenkrands, who now plays for Newcastle, comedians Andy Cameron and Fred MacAulay and bra queen Michelle Mone.

The glossy brochure for the 6750 sq ft house describes Thorntonhall as “a tranquil, tree-lined rural enclave of beautiful homes set within striking avenues and peaceful cul-de-sacs, known as one of the UK’s wealthiest and most desirable residential enclaves”.

It says the house, which has extensive gardens on a plot of almost an acre, is an example of “clean-cut modernity and light-filled expansive spaces with exquisite finishes”.

The main house includes a sun room, a dining room, lounge, family room and study as well as a kitchen and kitchen living area and a boot room.

Upstairs are four en-suite bedrooms and a 1.5 storey annexe wing houses a fifth bedroom.

On the second floor is a games room.

An influential U.S. magazine has named Tofino the number one surf town in North America.

Outside Magazine, a highly regarded resource for outdoor recreation, has published its first annual editors’ choice awards, listing all the best things to see, do, wear, eat or drink in the outdoors.

In the editors’ words, “the best surf town in North America is in Canada. Who knew?”

Many people in the surfing community in the tiny town on the west coast of Vancouver Island have bragged about the area’s great waves and swelling surf culture for years. The international recognition is welcome, if overdue in the opinion of some.

“I think it’s great,” said Jonny Jenkins, manager of The Storm Surf Shop. “I think it’s probably about time. Let’s put it that way.”

Everything about Tofino makes it a unique place to surf, said Jenkins.

The area is known for its great natural beauty and a water temperature that averages a bone-chilling 11 C, requiring wetsuits for anybody who challenges the waves.

“The scenery, the wildlife, the, you know, the uniqueness in terms of how cold it is in terms of how much rubber you have to put on to even survive out there.”

Last year, Tofino resident Peter de Vries beat out 140 international competitors to win the O’Neill Cold Water Classic in front of the hometown fans.

It was the cheap domestic flights from Melbourne (All Airports) to Hamilton Island first time the prestigious tournament was ever held in Canada.

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Travelers of all ages rushed with their stuffed backpacks to the top deck of the M/V Malaspina to secure a camping space in the open air.For years I had gazed at a clipping on my bulletin board describing adventurers pitching tents on the Alaska Marine Highway ferries. Now, my husband and I were on a three-day voyage along the Inside Passage from Bellingham to Juneau, Alaska.Since 1951, eleven ferries – the largest of which accommodates 499 passengers – have traveled 3,500 miles of routes along the marine highway. These comfortable ships venture as far south as Bellingham and as far north as Skagway, Alaska, with port stops in between. For many Alaskans, the ferries are a primary source of transportation between small, hard-to-reach coastal towns. In Bellingham, we had filed on board past a pickup truck overflowing with boxes, furniture, and potted plants. I overheard the driver saying that his family couldn’t make a go of it in the lower 48 so they were heading home. They joined us on the marine vessel’s top deck, where passengers were spreading sleeping bags across lawn chairs in the solarium and pitching pup tents outside. (If that doesn’t appeal, travelers can get an inside cabin – small, but warm.)“You’ll need this,’’ the pickup driver said as he tossed me a giant roll of duct tape, explaining that once the ferry got going, the wind cheap flight Armidale to Brisbane would kick up, threatening to blow tents …continue reading
